"Strewth!
- It's nearly Christmas"
What
state do you go into when you realise that the
year has nearly gone and Christmas is apon us
- panic? anxiety? stress? or do you sit back
and reflect on the learnings of the year and
look forward to doing things better in 2004?
Your
state of mind creates your results. You have
probably heard the term 'self fulfilling prophesy',
this phenomenon occurs because we react to the
world not as it is but to how we represent it
in our head. The thing you see as an opportunity
can be perceived by others as a disaster or
vice versa.
When
you think of an event, past, present or future,
you create a movie of it in your mind. Now,
I like going to the movies or renting DVD's
but every now and then I see a really bad one
and wonder why it was ever made. The last thing
I'm going to do is watch it again. Not so with
the bad movies in our head, we seem to have
a fascination with playing bad movies over and
over and over again. And when you play a movie
in your head you get to experience all the thoughts
and emotions again as if it was happening.
My
suggestion for this newsletter is to pick your
movies carefully. Play movies in your head of
times when you felt confident, playful, curious
and connected to people. Make a list of 10 events
in your life when you felt really powerful or
happy or loved... Play these movies regularly
and imagine next year being filled with more
events that you can add to your movie library.
